Attention all golfers! Did you know Western Sydney has a beautiful big Greg Norman designed Golf Course just ten minutes north west of Blacktown? It's called Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club, and it's the home of the New South Wales Open. But wait there's more! The Chefs at Stonecutters Ridge have been finalists two years in row in the Club's NSW cooking competition, The Chefs Table. When we went to dinner at the club, we had high expectations!

Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club opened in 2012 in the new development of Colebee. If you’re a golfer, there's the challenge of an 18 hole championship golf course to play. If you’re not a golfer (like me), the nineteenth hole is a cosy spot to relax with a few drinks or lunch while you enjoy the golf course views.

We were keen to see what kind of food was on offer from some of the state's best club chefs. We accepted an invitation to dinner at the club, I returned the following weekend for lunch with my good friend Pam.

The dinner menu was split into two categories, club favourites on one side of the menu and the clubs more elaborate signature dishes on the other. You could choose a favourite dish like chicken parmigiana or a more lavish chicken ballotine. For entree we chose prawn twisters and duck spring rolls. We absolutely loved the crispy prawn twisters which were complimented by a hint of coriander in the accompanying dipping sauce. For main I chose the beef cheeks from the club favourites while Alice selected the chicken ballotine from the signature dishes. The chicken ballotine was a jamon wrapped roll of chicken breast stuffed with bocconcini and sun dried tomatoes. The creamy pumpkin on the side gave a nice contrast in flavour and colour. The beef cheeks were very tender with loads of dark gravy. I loved that both meals were served with lots of fresh seasonal vegetables and plated with care. I will admit this really raised the bar on the club food I was used to.

Over dinner we noticed how fast the dining room filled for a Tuesday night. The club has a range of promotional offers, on that Tuesday night it was a two for one meal deal, order a meal from the club favourites menu, the second one of equal or lesser value becomes free. Bargain!

The location and atmosphere of Stonecutters Ridge made it the perfect venue to meet my friend Pam for lunch the following weekend. Mr 10 came too.

The lunch menu had a snack menu on its flip side, you could order anything from a meat pie to an antipasto platter! Mr 10 looked over the menu and announced he is now too big for kid's meals, lucky for him we decided to order the shared meat platter. When it was placed on our table we all said wow! The platter was a feast filled with lamb kofta skewers, chorizo, spicy chicken wings and twice cooked pork belly. It came complete with dipping sauce, a big bowl of beer battered fries and salad. We seriously could have got away with ordering a platter for two, this was man size food, and any man would have loved it. We found it finger licking good at only $16.50 per person.

If its one thing I love about club dining its drinks at club prices. Wine by the glass started at $6.00 per glass, we opted for the Oyster Bay Chardonnay for $7.00. On certain days you can purchase the cocktail of the month for $6.00, during July it was the Japanese Slipper.

After Lunch we soaked up the sun with a cool drink on the clubs balcony while watching several groups of golfers play their last hole. Before we knew it was time for afternoon tea, or in our case coffee. We had relaxed and chatted so comfortably we lost track of time, they are the best kind of lunches.

I must tell Pam about the Sunday buffet breakfast, that could be our next catch up venture.

Sooo much food, I didn't mention how great the chips were, we hardly touched them as we were so full.
