The Sydney Good Food and Wine Show is the one event I look forward to each year like a kid waiting for Christmas. I was one of the first people through the door last Friday morning when the show opened at Olympic Park. With a good foodie friend beside me we spent the day exploring the offerings of this mega food event. We met some wonderful people behind the food and wine labels, excitingly we unearthed a few from Western Sydney!

Now my friend and I both love cheese with a passion. This year's show had a big focus on cheese so we both were in cheese heaven. We did not find a cheese we didn’t like. French cheese, goats cheese, blue cheese, soft cheese, smelly cheese, big cheese, small cheese, beer cheese, we tried it all.

My companion loved the Bruny Island Artisan cheese, if you were game enough to try it, they had one named Nana’s Undies!

Ashgrove Cheese from Tasmania has been a long time favourite of mine, especially their Rubican Red, I was given some of their lavender cheese to try, the makers suggested it would be good with a cup of tea. I could imagine enjoying it with a nice French earl grey, or sparkling champagne.

Now this was The Good Food and Wine Show, as expected we found wine from all over Australia and beyond. Even if we wanted to, it was impossible to try every wine at the show, we didn’t want to end up legless! We carefully spaced our wine tastings to keep ourselves steady.

We really enjoyed the sparkling wine from Taltarni, the reds from Chateau Tanunda and the white wine from The Wog with the Grog (a Western Sydney Business)!  Wine Stoppers Australia carried all sorts of bling for your bottles.

The best thing about the show was meeting and chatting to the many ardent food makers proudly representing their labels. Many of their products were Australian made and owned.

We all agreed that it would be great to see more of these Australian owned brands featured prominently in our supermarkets.

It''s always a thrill to find unique products and food businesses in our own backyard, Western Sydney! These Western Sydney discoveries were small family businesses offering something unique!

Brightly packaged Fine Fettle Flats are little flat snacks made from fruit and veg, they are dried not fried! Flats are great with cheese, dip or on their own. Their Flecks are a trail mix, half dried vegetables half nuts and seeds. The dried fruit snacks were yum. The Flats have a 5 star health rating! I love their little portion control packs, they are great for people like me, who don’t know when to stop.

Jack Dillion’s Estate launched their business at the show. BBQ sauces, smoked garlic and pickles. Good luck Jack your range looks fantastic.

Cello produces its own version of limoncello and other amazing fruit liqueurs. The passionfruit was delicious. I can't wait to have a closer look at what they have. The Wog With the Grog supplies boutique Italian wines to the restaurants and bars in Sydney.

India’s Best is run by a family who provide ready to eat indian meals across selected stores in Sydney. We tried their butter chicken and masala goat curry, they tasted as good as any curry from a decent Indian restaurant.

We didn’t have a chance to see much of the celebrity chef theatre or book a master class, we must have done a lot of talking.

The best thing about the Good Food and Wine Show was its location, close to my home. Within twenty minutes of leaving the dome we were walking through my front door with some macarons for the family. Thats one of the reasons I love living in Western Sydney.

I went a little nuts on the Friday as well - Mum and I LOVED the passionfruit Cello - definitely not as strong as my Nonna's though :)

oh wow your nonna's must be amazing, nonnas are the best cooks! Next year I might go over two days, I didn't see any of the demonstrations, good excuse to go twice ;)
