We love October. Not only is it because we are well and truly into Spring and we can see Christmas starting to approach, but also because there are so many food events on as it is Good Food Month! This week the Parramatta Lanes festival is on. There’s two days left, tonight and tomorrow night from 5pm to 9pm. We went on the first night and had a ball!

We started our evening by crashing the Lord Mayor of Parramatta’s address to some locals and stakeholders. He spoke about how Parramatta is a foodie’s paradise and how the Parramatta Lanes Festival has been awarded as the best food event in NSW which we thought was very impressive! We also heard from a representative from the Fairfax Shoot the Chef competition. Shoot the Chef is a photography competition which anyone can enter. The cool and creative photos of chefs from the finalists are on display throughout car parks and laneways of Parramatta during the festival. Below are two of our favourite entries, by Julie Crespel and Brett Ferguson.

Don’t worry, we didn’t just admire amazing artwork and rub shoulders with politicians the whole time. We ate and drank plenty, too! Actually…we did more drinking than eating because it was a stinking 30-odd degrees! We spent a good two hours strolling through the endless laneways of Parramatta, soaking up the atmosphere. The Parkroyal Parramatta's Bar:30 shouted us a local Riverside Brewing Co. pale ale at their pop up bar next to the town hall, alongside some delicious smelling Indian food stalls.

There were the famous bearded bakers from Knafeh as well as Sundweesh on Batman Walk. We followed the music towards the Roxy carpark where we found another bar plus the magnificent coconut creations from Kayter Co.

Next to the Emporium on Phillip Street were some more soulful sounds from a live singer and the music continued over at Centenary Square as Happy As Larry churned out woodfired pizzas and refreshing fruit shakes. There were also local restaurants Jamie’s Trattoria and Courtney’s Brasserie serving up street-friendly takes on some of their menu items.

We had a fantastic time at Parramatta Lanes and hope to be back again before the week is over!
