Deniro’s Restaurant and Pizzeria is a small, suburban restaurant specialising in you guessed it, Italian food! After following these guys on Instagram for a while and ‘liking’ each other’s photos of early morning visits of Sydney Market, the Western Sydney Food Blog has finally gotten around to visiting them for a Friday night dinner.

It was a girl’s night out with two of my closest friends that called for a visit to this neighbourhood gem. After a ‘cheers’ with a glass of Verdelho, my notoriously indecisive friends (sorry girls) and I, all came to a rare consensus: let’s order the antipasto platter for entrée. There are two sizes available. We opted for the small size, however, we all gasped in shock and excitement when a huge plate was brought to our table. It was loaded with mini arancini in a delicious red sauce, slices of salami, addictive feta stuffed olives, bocconcini wrapped in prosciutto, a roast vegetable and feta mix plus some garlic bread and oil for dipping. It was magnificent and we all agreed that we would have been happy with just our glass of wine and that platter. However, there was still a main course to come.

For main, we shared a bowl of gnocchi, a pizza and a salad. The Gnocchi di Casa, although looked pretty plain, was delectable with pillows of the house-made pasta lingering in a creamy, four cheese sauce. Let’s face it, three cheeses is never enough! The pizza we ordered is called the ‘Deniro’s Special’ and is topped with mozzarella cheese, mushrooms, salami, capsicum and olives (plus anchovies if you choose). Although it was tasty, we couldn’t finish it all, so I took the leftovers home to my man who was stoked and had it for breakfast and lunch the next day.

We had to balance out all the carbs somehow, so we had Spinach and Pear Salad for a touch of freshness. The spinach and pear were tossed with walnuts and fetta and drizzled with a sweet and sticky balsamic glaze.

As full as we were, we couldn't resist ordering a dessert to share. Unlike the entrée, this was not a unanimous decision. The Sticky Date, Ferrero Roche Ice Cream, Baked Ricotta Cheesecake (which is supplied by Pasticceria Caruso) and Nutella Pizza all sounded so enticing. But in the end, we went for the Banana & Butterscotch Crepes. The crepes were light and the combination of the warm, caramelised bananas with the rich sauce and cold ice cream were a match made in heaven. It was the perfect way to end a wonderful dinner with great friends.
