Hidden on the third floor of the Parramatta Leagues Club is something unexpected and impressive. It’s a restaurant called the Firehouse Bar and Grill serving up a range of delicious pizzas, pastas and burgers, but even more exciting is their Stonegrill menu.

What is Stonegrill you ask? Stonegrill is a hot, volcanic stone, that Firehouse keep in an oven for 24 hours which when removed stays hot for up to 4 hours. Firehouse’s Stonegrill menu gives diners the option to order prawns, steaks and lamb to cook to their liking at their table on the hot stone. Over a couple of visits, we have been able to try all three of these dishes.

We ordered the scotch fillet which we cooked medium-rare, resulting in a juicy and tender steak. It was a hearty meal served with gravy, chips and coleslaw. The lamb souvlaki skewers were also tender, served with flat bread, greek salad, tzatziki and chips. The zataar prawns were plump and succulent, cooking quickly before being shared as an entrée with garlic sauce, lemon and toasted Turkish bread.

It is not just entrees and mains which are available with the Stonegrill. Firehouse has a Stonegrill dessert option too! Thick quarters of juicy pineapple caramelise on the Stonegrill, before being enjoyed with sides of toasted coconut, chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream.

We know a few of you will be saying “but I go out for dinner so I don’t have to cook!” We hear you and we get it. But Stonegrill is not like cooking at home. With Stonegrill, you are cooking at your table together with your friends, family or partner. We found it to be a really fun experience and better yet, you don’t have to clean up afterwards!

If you’re still not convinced, never fear, because not only are the items on the Stonegrill menu also available to be cooked for you by a chef in the Firehouse kitchen at no extra cost, but there’s also a huge range of tasty chef-cooked dishes available too. Here’s a list of all the other Firehouse Bar and Grill menu items we have been lucky enough to taste:

• Chilli salt & pepper squid with coriander and lime dipping sauce | Incredibly tender
• Veal and pork meatballs with Italian herbs and napolitana sauce | The housemade meatballs and sauce are both rich and full of flavour
• Lemon pepper chicken skewers with coleslaw and pita bread | These grilled tenderloin skewers are surprisingly tender

• Monterey Jack crispy spring rolls with sweet chilli sauce | The cheese is subtle in flavour but big on ooze
• Chicken pesto fusilli with sundried tomato, bacon and rocket | This is a very hearty and satisfying pasta dish and one of the best sellers on the menu
• Burgers – Firehouse Deluxe, BBQ Pulled Pork, Southern Fried Chicken & Grilled Portuguese | Our favourites were the Firehouse Deluxe which is a mustard lover’s delight and the BBQ Pulled Pork which has a great smokey flavour.

• Pizzas – Firehouse and San Daniele | The pizzas are thin and crispy, the way we like them, with simple, but flavoursome toppings.
• Churros with warm dipping chocolate sauce | The cinnamon dusted churros were light and fluffy
• Frangelico affogato | This was the perfect way to end the meal.
