Dural rates high on our list of appealing food destinations, especially on the weekend when the pace is more relaxed and we can shop for fresh veggies at the local roadside stalls. Then there's the cafes, no visit is complete unless you spoil yourself with a delicious breakfast or lunch. On a recent visit, we popped into The Wren, a cafe which is owned by a young Dural couple. Their creative menu and gorgeous plating has made The Wren one of the most popular cafes in the area.

The interior of The Wren has a bright clean look with splashes of blue decor and light timber tables, but what really stands out is  The Wren's funky black coffee machine with it's teal coloured coffee cups.

We visited for brunch so we had the choice of the breakfast menu. Temptation led us into ordering three dishes, even though there was only two of us!

My choice was the Cured Salmon with Shaved Apple, Fresh Fennel, Roasted Pecans and Fetta on Toasted Rye -  This is a sophisticated to start the day. I had  the option of adding poached egg, chorizo or avocado but all it really needs is a glass of bubbly to make it complete.

Alice  chose the Mushroom Deluxe on charred Sourdough with an additional Poached Egg, Pecorino Cheese and a White Truffle and Walnut Dressing. To top it off, the plate is complemented with fresh micro herbs and looks absolutely beautiful.

To finish, we shared a Warm Toasted Waffle. This is served with lashings of maple syrup, a pretty arrangement of fresh seasonal fruit, pistachios and a vanilla bean ice cream. Just delicious!

It was a searing summer day so I opted to sip on an Iced Long Black while Alice remained content to have her usual skinny Capp. The Wren serves Mecca coffee which is a local Sydney brand!

The Wren’s casual style of fine cafe dining makes this place well worth a visit. Now we have the perfect excuse to visit Dural more often!
