Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL is located between the edge of the Western Suburbs and the hip Inner West. This friendly club has recently enhanced its dining options with the opening of their new Asian restaurant - Nu Bambu. Diners at Nu Bambu will discover a modern mix of Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and Indonesian dishes, all served with style.

The Executive Chef at Nu Bambu is Indonesian born Freddie Salim. Freddie realised he had a passion for food quite early in life, and as a boy he found himself drawn to the family kitchen where he learnt everything he possibly could from his mum. Naturally he progressed into a food career and since moving to Australia ten years ago, Freddie has worked at Sokyo, Longrain and the Newport Arms before embarking on his exciting new venture at Nu Bambu.

The lunch menu at New Bambu offers a good value selection of casual street food, popular noodle dishes, Laskas, Pho’s, fresh salads, stir fries and curries. The dinner menu amps up the style with dishes such as Grilled Champagne Lobster, Thai Salmon Ceviche and Cape Grim Beef Tartare bringing a fusion of fresh Asian flavours to the table.

Drinkwise, there’s everything between soft house made sodas to an exquisite Japanese Gris De Koshu which is an amazing drop when paired with  flavours such as lemongrass and ginger.

Our meal at Nu Bambu looked as attractive as it was delicious. To start we had The Thai Salmon Ceviche, which is raw salmon with fresh coconut, mint and Nahm Jim. Other dishes we loved included :

Green Vegetable Curry comprising of roasted pumpkin, cauliflower and fragrant thai basil.

And for dessert  - Crispy Choux filled with Pandan Custard and Freddies favourite dish from the menu, Mum’s Egg Tart, which is his mum's own recipe. This little tart has shortcrust shell filled with a rich sweet custard which we found quite decadent. We recommend that you don't leave Nu Bambu without trying one!

It's not just the food that's sophisticated here, Nu Bambu was styled by acclaimed interior designer Paul Kelly and features grey ombre walls, stunning artwork (he created himself) and a gorgeous outdoor garden. This new addition to Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL compliments the other dining options available within the club and makes it possible for everyone to taste a little bit of everything across Asia in Canterbury.
