Crock-Pot® have given us the solution to our 5pm dinner dilemma. Their new Express Crock Multi-Cooker (RRP $149) combines the convenience of a slow cooker with the efficiency of a pressure cooker in one modern kitchen appliance.  In addition to this, the Express Crock also has the ability to steam and saute. These four versatile features make this our new “go-to” for easy time saving meal prep.

The saute function is something we are really excited about, as it gives a real boost to the Express Crock’s slow cooking potential. Caramelising the onions, garlic and meat before a long slow cook enriches the flavours of any curry or casserole. Crock-Pot Express Crock

The Express Crock comes with easy to understand instructions, a recipe book, steaming rack and a serving spoon (which protects the non stick surface of the cooking pot). Aside from these items, we only needed our basic kitchen equipment, a few ingredients and a powerpoint to get cooking. We prepared a hearty Express Paella loaded with tasty chorizo, chicken and prawns in 4 easy steps! We have shared the recipe below to get your mouth watering.

After putting the Express Crock through its paces we loved:

  • The non stick cooking pot - it has a huge 5.7 litre capacity, and is so easy to clean. It’s dishwasher safe but comes clean in seconds using a tap and a dishcloth.
  • The lid rest - this is such a handy feature! The handle on the lid slides into the handle on the pot and holds itself up. This also keeps your work bench uncluttered.
  • The keep warm function - when the cooking time is finished, the timer beeps and the Express Crock automatically switches to keep warm.
  • The front panel that has several pre-set cooking options suggesting times and settings for a variety of meal types - there’s even a setting for making yogurt.

Express Paella

Gather

  • Express Crock Multi-Cooker
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 500g chorizo, sliced
  • 500g chicken thighs, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 red capsicum, seeds removed, diced
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 cup chicken stock
  • 1 cup peas
  • ½ cups long grain rice
  • 2 tbsp freshly chopped parsley
  • ½ tsp extra fine sugar
  • 450g prawns, peeled, deveined
  • 400g can chopped tomatoes
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Method

Step 1 Press BROWN/SAUTÉ, and then press START/STOP. Add oil and preheat for 2 minutes. Add chorizo and chicken and brown in cooking pot for 3-4 minutes. Remove from cooking pot.

Step 2 Add garlic, onion and capsicum. Sauté for 4-5 minutes or until tender.

Step 3 Press START/STOP and add remaining ingredients to the cooking pot. Secure the lid ensuring the steam release valve is in the seal (closed) position. Press RICE/RISOTTO, set the pressure to LOW, and set to 10 minutes. Press START/STOP.

Step 4 Once the unit has finished cooking, allow the unit to have a natural pressure release time of 5 minutes, serve and Enjoy!
