While Alice kicks her heels up in Europe, I’ve been catching up with Kim, a fellow food blogger from Go West Gourmet. Last week we visited Warwick Farm and had a 5 star dining experience at The William Inglis Hotel.

The William Inglis Hotel

The  William Inglis is an upmarket hotel which overlooks Warwick Farm Race Track.  A magnificent sculpture of a horse and strapper stands at the entrance, and there's an ongoing horse theme throughout the hotel grounds.

The hotel’s restaurant is the Newmarket Room. It has the refined ambiance of polished timber, brass fittings, soft lighting and olive suede lounges. Diners have the option of sitting in cozy booths, or at tables which seat up to 10.

The Newmark Room opens up into a series of manicured gardens for alfresco dining. These stunning gardens also feature stylish pavilions for weddings and functions.

A new spring menu heros local paddock to plate produce with dishes such as Grilled Quail served with kipfler potatoes and a fig vincotto. The grill fires up for Riverina Black Angus and seafood choices include Local Oysters in a champagne vinaigrette.

While we decided on what to eat and drink, we were offered a bowl of warm sourdough bread to nibble on. We chose our drinks to fit the mood of our plush surroundings, I sipped on a light Tasmanian Pinot while Kim went with a refreshing mocktail of tonic, cucumber and mint.

We started with two beautifully plated entrees, a delicate Homemade Pumpkin Ravioli in sage butter with parmesan and watercress, and also the perfectly Seared Scallops with a homely Beetroot Relish, Pineapple Salsa and Fresh Asparagus.

Kim chose Chargrilled Lamb Cutlets as her main. Her plate featured well balanced flavours of chermoula and a Thai inspired papaya & mango salad. You cant beat tender lamb in spring when it's at its absolute best - this ones a winner!

I went with the Fresh Linguine Pasta with Local Yamba Prawns. The pasta is tossed with confit tomatoes, garlic, chilli and herb butter. The sweet Yamba prawns are the star of this plate and the herb and chilli flavours are spot on.

For dessert we shared a delicate Summer Berry Mille Feuille, this is a heavenly combination of thin crisp pastry, a luscious coconut mousse, a vibrant berry dust and a scattering of berries.

Then came the Local Cheese platter. Our cheese arrived on a wooden board surrounded by crisp apple, fresh grapes, crackers, fig conserve and a piece of rich golden honeycomb (which we absolutely loved). We received 3 wedges of artisan cheese, one each of cheddar, brie and blue. Of course the ultimate way to enjoy cheese of this calibre would be to pair it with a robust glass of wine.

The Newmarket Room offers luxury dining at a reasonable price with the kind of service that you would expect from a 5 star hotel.  You don’t need to be a hotel guest to dine here, but after seeing the William Inglis, you may be tempted to stay.
