Nestled near the gumtrees of the Pemulwuy neighbourhood sits a modern, Italian café. We visited on a Sunday morning for brunch and lots of locals had a similar idea. Though bustling with diners sitting inside and outside the café as well as nearby residents popping in for their morning coffee, the food at Granata's still comes out fresh and fast.

I ordered an ice chocolate to slurp while waiting for my meal. The cold, sweet blend was made with nuts, which was a nice addition. The bubbly banana smoothie was Ethan’s pick and also delicious. The gelato milkshakes on the menu sounded tempting, but maybe a little much first thing in the morning!

The scrambled eggs and bacon with toast was Ethan’s breakky. The huge portion was impressive, though the bacon was slightly too chewy. But this didn’t prevent it from being polished off. I went with the ‘little pot of heaven’. It was a flavoursome iron pot of beans, sausage, napolitana sauce, poached eggs and parmesan. It came with a serve of sourdough and a warning from the waiter to ‘be careful, it’s hot’. Yep, he wasn’t lying. This type of dish is my favourite for breakfast, so I was a little too impatient and managed to burn my mouth. That’ll teach me – listen to your waiter! Despite this it was a very tasty breakky.

Just near the counter is a gorgeous display of cakes and pastries. I was too full to have one straight after breakfast but luckily Granata's offer takeaway! I somehow controlled myself and only bought one, but there were so many I had my eye on. I ended up with a chocolate tart, but not just any chocolate tart, a Western Sydney Wanderers chocolate tart. Rich, chocolatey, goodness fit for the RBB.

Granata's is a nice dining spot in the quiet Pemulwuy community. I am definitely jealous of the lucky locals that have such good, affordable Italian food, gelato and coffee right on their doorstep.
